VS Code extension
Vintage Story Schematic Preview previews Vintage Story schematics (.json and the wiki's .json.gz copies) and
QPTech ChiselTools shape files as interactive 3D models without leaving VS Code — the same viewer as the wiki's
schematic viewer and
chiseled shape viewer.

Install
- Download the
.vsixfile above. - In VS Code open the Extensions view, choose … → Install from VSIX… and pick the file — or run
code --install-extension vs-vscode-extension-0.1.0.vsixin a terminal.
Using it
- The preview never replaces VS Code's normal JSON editor. Right-click a schematic (or a ChiselTools shape file) in the Explorer and choose Preview Schematic or Chisel Shape, use the button in the editor title bar, or pick Open With… → Vintage Story Schematic Preview.
- Shape files saved by ChiselTools (
.pf save) live in thechiselportfoliofolder inside yourVintagestoryDatafolder; files there, and anything named*.pf, open in the preview. - Orbit, pan and zoom; click a block to see its decoded block-entity data; filter and hide block kinds in the list; peel a structure away from the top with the Up to Y slider.
Settings
vsSchematic.showCenterMarker— a marker at the middle of the shape (the camera's orbit point).vsSchematic.showGrid— a grid on the y = 0 plane.
The extension type-checks, bundles and packages in this project's CI, but it has not been launched in a real VS Code by the maintainers, so expect rough edges.
