Entry 1
Thanks to our successful rift-shifting experiments, we must now validate our theory about sunlight's influence on rifts.

We will construct a lens to collect and reflect sunlight.

Entry 2
We invited mechanics, patrons, and a few experts in catadioptrics.

Most mechanics agreed; only one expert, Lucius Benidii, expressed interest.

We will await their arrival.

Entry 3
The meeting produced unusual results.
Some mechanics objected to the risks and declined, but the remaining key figures - including the catadioptric expert - agreed. We are already scheduling a follow-up to begin blueprint work.

Entry 4
Blueprint work has begun. Lucius shared his knowledge and experience of light reflection. The team is carefully combining the mechanics' insights with the expert’s practice. A grand beginning!

Entry 5
Construction of the lens is sometimes slowed by the instability of this place.
Temporal storms have become frequent, forcing us to divert effort to self-protection.
Aside from this, the mold and materials for the lens are already prepared.

Entry 6
Assembly is nearly complete; precise technique and hard-won experience allowed us to build such a massive instrument.
Once final preparations are done, we can immediately seek answers to our old questions.

Entry 7
The lens is operated manually.
Four people rotate it, and one on the platform tilts the mirror.

Entry 8
The planetary gear - the key element of the rotation mechanism - was created with tremendous effort.
First, we cast a huge mold and poured molten metal.
Individual planet gears were cast and, not without difficulty, fixed into the assembly.
We followed the blueprint and manual of Jonas Falx.

Entry 9
The lens functions as intended.
By fortune and careful calculation, the current season lets sunlight strike the lens and reflect into select parts of the cave.
The number of variables we manage is enormous.

Entry 10
Our first trials aimed the beam at different locations; the southwest corner is perfectly illuminated and fully meets our needs.
It is, I should note, the most expensive light source I have ever seen.
We can now illuminate specific work areas - remarkable.

Entry 11
First aim at the rift.
Success: the rift seems to freeze, calm, and brighten.
We appear to have stabilized it.
Creatures shy from the light; they fear crossing into our world.
This suggests potential - as if we might cross to the other side.
We will convene a team meeting in its honor.
