“Faulkner, I need to understand what’s going on here. What is the quarantine for?”
“Faulkner, the mercantile guilds are getting impatient. They want to know when they can have their people back. Do you have an estimate for when the quarantine ends?”
“Faulkner, perhaps you could enlist one of the quarantined to stand watch below the grate, and fetch you when they see me here. That way, we could speak again, even if we are both so busy. I have many questions to ask!”
“Faulkner, is there anything I can do to aid you in your duty, to help the quarantine along? I can smell food that has gone bad through the air vent. I’ve dropped all the pouches of grain through the grate that I could spare. It is sure to last a lifetime.”
“Faulkner, it’s difficult to see down there, and my lantern’s light does not quite reach. I cannot tell if these are reaching you, but… I am choosing to believe they are. Know that I continue to pray for you.”
“Faulkner, I long for your guidance. Elewyn is in low spirits, and I had not realized how much my own hope was hinging on her smile. I wish we could speak again, but I understand you must be busy ensuring everything goes smoothly below.”
