Ripley, this has to stop. I understand that you think your projects are important but I would think keeping the House Head happy and fed is quite important in its own right. In all of our best interests, in fact! I just watched Goldfinch fire another serf after he offered them grapes deemed too small. A choking hazard. There’s not many servants left to take the fall for me before I end up having to present the fruits and vegetables in person.
I keep reaching for the saltpeter to fashion my fertilizer and finding the vessels empty. When you use the last of something, you put in an order for more. That is how things work around here. I understand this is your first time as research head, but we cannot afford for you to make these mistakes. I spent years training in the Derabul academy to trim hedges and sprout flowers, never to grow crops, let alone enough produce to feed the entire staff. And I will admit I have dreamt more than once of working on the Askannon orchards instead. But regardless I have taken on my new duties swimmingly. Why can’t you do the same?
The leatherworker, bless her soul, accused me of having used too much! Yet my fields have never looked worse, and I know my green fingers are not to blame. Whatever you’re doing down there had better be worth the trouble you’re causing up in the House by so carelessly draining our reagents. I have put in another order of niter, twice the size as usual, and I implore you to leave some for the rest of us this time.
With agitated regards,
Basira Qamar,
Head Horticulturist of House Goldfinch
